De Raíz is the exhibition Catalina created after her trip to Japan in March… But it became far more than a show, more than inspiration drawn from a culture or a journey.

De Raíz turned into an introspective body of work. She looked inward and reflected on all the years of searching and effort she had lived through since she first began painting, grateful for where she stood in the present. A line from a poem by Bernárdez reads, “what the tree holds in bloom lives from what it holds buried” — words that reached the depths of her heart, leaving an echo she has carried with her ever since.

She poured these words into the trees on her canvases, each one different, each one unique. She imagined their roots, their path — what makes them bloom, what makes them special.
